TEACHERS DAY

Who is a teacher? Somebody who stands in front of the classroom ensuring that order is maintained, work is done and hours are completed?

Or someone who teaches language, arithmetic, science and then takes her period off in the staff room?

A teacher has always been more than a 7am to 2pm companion. And teaching has been far more expansive than just language, arithmetic and science.

Nobody is born a teacher. And yet everybody is a teacher. Nobody can be a teacher without becoming a student first.
Teaching can only be imparted post learning. But, with increasing time the process of teaching and learning becomes more complex. A teacher needs to evolve with time and should keep in view the changing trajectories of a pupil’s thoughts.

Moreover a teacher-student relationship is highly complementary. A teacher also learns from a student and that is the most critical element in the development of a teacher.

Teaching is a very contagious activity. A teacher’s personality, psyche, demeanor and thoughts rub off on students. The most critical component of teaching is not allowing external factors to affect the process of teaching.

This is what differentiates an experienced teacher from an amateur one. This does not mean that any thoughts with negative connotations should be brushed under the carpet. Eccentric thoughts contribute far more to a student’s psyche and development than regular ones. But these situations contribute to the complexity of teaching and its overwhelming influence over everything.

Coming back to the original question- Who is a teacher? A teacher is someone who shapes the personality of a community. A teacher is someone who cultivates the psyche of society. A teacher is someone who develops life. But ultimately, a teacher is someone who teaches. And there is nothing more complex yet simple than teaching in this world.

Thankyou.
